This Is Our Night! Fly To The Top

Volume 4 is funded!

And we still have a solid 4 days to hit that first stretch goal -- the one where I make the book longer.

Per tradition, it's at the "break Volume 3's funding record" mark. Which is less than $400 away.

Given that "first 48 hours" and "last 48 hours" are the busiest stages of a Kickstarter campaign...and we made over $2,000 in the first 48 hours...

I have a feeling we're going to whip right past it without even blinking.

(Should I have done it by percentage, to make it more challenging? Volume 3 closed out at 147% funded. Volume 4 would be 147% funded at...uh, $6,174. Okay, maybe that would've been too much of a challenge.)

Believe In Me

(Pictured: Marshmallow Fluff assisting me with packing the rewards from the Volume 3 campaign.)

One week to go -- and we are so close to funded, you guys. So close.

When I launched the Volume 4 campaign, there was a section that talked about the projected timeline, and said "we'll probably get things done on about the same schedule as we did for Volumes 1-3."

Even with all the horrible things 2020 threw at us, I still managed to get those books out in February/March, only a few months after the campaign!

But now we've got 2021, finding exciting new ways to be awful.

Some of the articles that crossed my feeds in just this past week:

The Leif & Thorn volumes are handled by a different printer, so they won't hit exactly the same roadblocks as BICP -- but it would be very, very lucky if the other company didn't have any extra struggles of its own over the next 3-4 months.

The upshot of all this is...I edited the main campaign page, so the projected delivery date is less "February/March 2022" and more "¯\_(ツ)_/¯"

On the bright side...at least this isn't my first campaign! I've got a track record you can trust. Multiple years' worth of backers happily getting the books they ordered. Nobody has to worry "ooh, maybe she's a slacker who can't get it done at all, and she's just using the Los Angeles port jam as a creative excuse."

One more thing you can count on: after the campaign ends, I'll keep posting updates about how the book-production process is going.

It's shaping up to be a weird one, folks. If nothing else, at least it'll be an interesting ride.

I Was Playing With Numbers...
over 4 years ago – Fri, Oct 08, 2021 at 12:08:38 AM

Updates from this past week!

The campaign: 96% funded, with 81 backers

And there's a whole week left to go! We're going to whip past the previous Leif & Thorn funding record, easy.

I know we're not going to out-fund the BICP Master's Edition campaign (the individual rewards were way pricier)...but can we out-back it? Get more than 93 backers by the end of this?

I bet we can. (Tell a friend.)

Lead on the mini-print poll: 1-2 votes

The "what art should be the exclusive Volume 4 mini-print?" poll has been a dead heat for weeks now.

"Significant bracelets" and "Luminous Triad" are the clear front-runners -- but they've switched places a couple of times, and are always within 1 or 2 votes of each other.

If you have a preference, please go vote

Leif & Thorn backlist orders: 5

The "get all the Leif & Thorn books together" tier is usually pretty popular. I figured, during this Kickstarter, enough of you would snap it up that I'd run out of the original Volume 2 print run.

But no! Sales are way down.

And honestly? Given the cost of shipping this year, I completely understand.

This might actually work out well for everyone. Because it's not just the postal service that's overwhelmed -- we're having a full-on paper shortage. The cost to print books in the first place has taken a steep jump.

I plan on ordering Volume 4 on-schedule no matter what. (And shipping the rewards...as close to on-schedule as possible.) I gritted my teeth and factored those prices into the Kickstarter budget.

But if I don't need to order more copies of Volume 2 at the exact same time? If I can sit on the Kickstarter funds and put off the purchase until after Christmas -- or better yet, after Chinese New Year?

With any luck (knock wood), I'll be able to get a better deal.

And then maybe I can do something nice with the savings, while I gear up for that next campaign in 2022.

You Know We Got A Million Choices (the mini-print poll)
over 4 years ago – Thu, Sep 30, 2021 at 01:30:50 AM

Every year, if you back the newest Leif & Thorn volume on Kickstarter, it comes with an exclusive mini-print. Instead of just picking out the art myself, I figure it's more fun if I grab a few different pieces and let you folks vote.

This year...well, I grabbed a lot of pieces. Turns out I drew a whole bunch of Eurovision-themed Leif & Thorn art. (Also included: other drawings that tie in with the major storylines from Volume 4.)

You can find the poll on the Leif & Thorn website

Here's a closer look at the art:

Don’t worry about the exact sizes — they’re all high-res enough for these prints, and I’ll adjust them to look good at the right dimensions.  Just focus on picking your favorite. (Or favorites! You can pick up to 2.)

The poll will stay open until our fundraising deadline, October 15. Click on over and put in some votes.
